A FEW VISUAL WAYS TO ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS

A perennial favorite at Christmastide is the short story "Gift of the Magi" by O'Henry.

This is a story of love and sacrific by a young married couple named Jim and Della.  It embodies the full spirit of giving that O'Henry believed should be a part of all mankind.  To take the time to read this beautiful and moving story is one of the best holiday presents you can offer yourself.  And, if you have anyone around who likes to be read to, please pull them in and share this unforgettable experience. (see below #1)

Another Christmas inspirational experience will be enjoyed if you read "Yes, Virgina, there is a Santa Claus."  This was the result of a letter written by an 8 year old girl to the editor of The New York Sun Newspaper in 1897. (How appropriate to read it on the 100th anniversary of is first publication!) (see below #2)

A Litte Extra:
#1 -A wonderful Christmas treat has appeared on the World Wide Web.  It includes such legendary stories as "The Gift of the Magi" by O'Henry, " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas" in both English and Spanish, a Christmas story from Australia, and many others. All these stories and more can be read at: http:www.night.net/christmas/poems12html-ssi

#2 - A new site on the World Wide Web has the printed version of "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus".  You can find it and enjoy it at:

We at EFI wish you, your family, and friends a Happy Holiday Season and a few days filled with wonderful literature to read and enjoy.

Note: The previous was contributed by Joyce Griffith Butler, an EFI teacher. She checked the sites, but mentioned, "but I have found that sometimes my students have difficulties.  Merry Christmas!"
